Marjorie “Margie” Jeanette Stevens, was born at home to parents, Foster and Grace Boonie, in McClure, PA, on November 9, 1939. Orphaned at an early age, she was adopted by Roy and Alma McKenzie of North Industry (Canton), OH. Marjorie passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at age 74.
Margie first married Glenn Barstow in September, 1957; four sons were born of that union. She married Jim Stevens on October 2, 1981 at historical Sotterley Mansion in Hollywood, MD.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, and their beloved bichon, R. Lee; nine natural siblings and three adoptive siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Larry (Julie) Barstow of Sumner, WA; Michael of Yakima, WA; Steven (Deanne) of Woodbridge, VA; and Shannon (Nicole) of DeForest, WI; special son, Leslie Stevens of San Antonio, TX and stepson Alan Stevens of Escondido, CA; two natural sisters Jean Zwang of Phoenix, OR; and Betty (Jim) Lehberger of North Canton, OH; and one natural brother, Bob (Barbara) Gero of Negaunee, MI. Also surviving is one adoptive brother, Marvin (Ruth) McKenzie of Canton, OH. She is survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.
Margie worked for Civil Service 14 years, both at Patuxent River Naval Base in Lexington Park, MD, and one year in Jacksonville, FL. She was active in many groups – recently rejoined singing group Young at Heart; founding member of red hat group Razzle Dazzle Reds, attended both Country Woman’s Club and Christian Women’s Club. She was a member of Hilldale United Methodist Church, SS Founders Class, Methodist Women’s Rebecca Group; and a life member of the Women’s Auxilary, VFW Post 4895, and honorary life member of Vietnam Veterans organization.
Margie loved to travel. Her hobbies were crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, collecting antiques, and planning/decorating for parties and luncheons.
Funeral service will be at noon on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev. Skip Armistead officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West in Hopkinsville, KY. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday, May 12, 2014 at the funeral home.
