CLARKSVILLE, TN – Manna Cafe this weekend hosted Sprouting Hope, an annual fundraising gala to support their mission of fighting hunger. Friday evening the Wilma Rudolph Event Center was filled with community leaders, business owners and individuals who are passionate about tackling food insecurity. Title sponsors F&M Bank and CDE Lightband headed a group of committed local companies who made the event possible.
This year’s event raised $35,000 and led to commitments from 16 new monthly donors.
Currently entering its 15th year of operation, Manna Cafe is a lifeline in the community, serving thousands of people each year with nutritious meals, groceries and other critical assistance. As demand for food and resources continues to rise, Sprouting Hope set a goal to develop a base of donors to commit to donating on a recurring basis. “Of course we are grateful for large donations but by having consistent monthly gifts Manna Cafe can more effectively plan programs,” explains Doretha Minor, Manna CFO.
Guests were treated to a dinner prepared by Chef Maxwell, the Manna culinary staff and interns. The party included a Chicago-style step dancing demonstration by the ClarksVegas Steppers.
The highlight of the evening was dual recognition of Manna Cafe by Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden and Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts. In celebration of Manna Cafe Ministries’ 15 years of service, Golden presented Vicki York with a proclamation, and Pitts presented a street sign renaming Oak Street as Kenny York Memorial Way, to honor the Manna founder.
“We are thrilled and humbled by the love and support of so many in our community,” said Vicki York, Manna Cafe CEO. “This event not only raised funds for a cause close to our hearts, but it will also help to increase awareness of the ongoing challenges faced by families who are struggling with food insecurity in our area.”
