CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Martha McRoy had to pay up on her bet to go bald, but it was all for a good cause.

Walmart employees on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard gathered around, McRoy, their store manager on Thursday, Aug. 6, and laughed and cheered as locks of her hair were buzzed off and  fell into her lap.

Last year, store associates raised $22,000  for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

McRoy challenged them this year to raise $35,000 during the campaign and if they did, she agreed to let them cut her hair off. The Walmart team surpassed that mark and ended up raising $36,000.

With glee, coworkers took turns shaving her head bald.

“This group is fired up and they are really passionate and really behind it, and it’s passionate and dear to me too,” McRoy said. “I thought they might hit $30,000, but they hit $36,000 so I was proud to do it. It’s for a great cause.”

McRoy added they did  fundraising events such as cashiers asking customers to contribute, having bake sales, hot dog sales and management took part by wearing tutu outfits and a lot of other fun activities.

McRoy is known to be a big University of Tennessee fan. So as a final act, the letters UK, for the University of Kentucky, were clipped into her remaining tiny tresses and then sprayed with Kentucky blue.
