CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A man wanted for murder in Nashville was arrested in Clarksville on Dec. 27.
Thomas Givens, 41, was charged with homicide in the June 19 murder of 26-year-old Ernest Johnson outside an apartment on Charles E. Davis Boulevard in Nashville, according to a news release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police.
Givens is in custody in Clarksville and will be extradited to Nashville to face the homicide charges, the news release said.
The Nashville investigation, led by MNPD Detective James Davis, found that Johnson tried to intercede in an argument between a woman and Givens when Johnson was fatally shot, the news release said.
According to Clarksville Police Lt. Charles Gill, CPD served the homicide warrant after an officer recognized Givens. When the officer approached Givens, Gill told Clarksville Now, he took off on foot.
When the officer gave chase and tackled Givens, Gill said he continued to resist, so evading and resisting arrest charges were added by CPD.
Givens is set to appear in court in Montgomery County on Tuesday for the evading arrest charges, and on Jan. 13 on unrelated aggravated assault charges from 2020.
