CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville man has been indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury for allegedly carjacking a patrol car and attempting to hit an officer with it.

The indictment states that 28-year-old Chaz Perkins of Clarksville jumped into a Clarksville police officer’s patrol car on Commerce St. and attempted to use it as a deadly weapon against the officer. He put the vehicle in gear, causing it to crash into a railing in front of the 911 building.

After the collision a fight ensued and during the altercation Perkins reached for the officer’s weapon, according to the indictment.

Another officer arrived on the scene and took Perkins into custody.

He was charged with attempted carjacking, reckless endangerment, and aggravated assault.
