CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Waverly man has been sentenced to three years in prison for vehicular homicide. Joseph Karnes, 27, was convicted of Vehicular Homicide and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death for a fatal motorcycle accident in 2016.

Karnes will serve time in the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

The crash occurred at Tiny Town Rd and Cainlo Dr. July 2, 2016 around 6 a.m. Karnes, 24-years-old at the time, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado.

He was attempting to make a left turn on to Cainlo Dr traveling eastbound on Tiny Town Rd. He struck a 2002 Harley ridden by Jeremy Halstead, 29, traveling west on Tiny Town Rd.

Karnes left the scene of the crash and was later located at a Loupin Lane address.

Jeremy Halstead was transported to Tennova Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
