CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A man was killed in a high speed crash on Oak Street early Saturday morning in Clarksville.

Clarksville police said a 37-year-old man and his 31-year-old female passenger were driving north on Oak Street May 26 around 12:45 a.m. in a gray 2005 Nissan Altima. Police said the driver was speeding and lost traction around 490 Oak Street, swerved, and went off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole on the driver side.

The utility pole shattered and knocked down power lines as a result of the crash.

The male driver, identified as Craig Bobby Knight of Clarksville died at the scene and the female passenger, whose name has not been released was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt in serious condition but was upgraded to stable later in the day.

The investigation is ongoing.
