CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man has been indicted by the Montgomery County grand jury on accusations that he used a gun to cause the death of a person.

Kelly Curtis Thomas, 49, is charged with reckless homicide in the August 21, 2018 shooting death of 18-year-old Mason Sandoval.

Thomas is accused of “recklessly killing” Sandoval by pointing a loaded handgun in his direction and the “reckless conduct resulted in the death” of Sandoval, according to his indictment.

According to a previous report, police responded to a home on Eastern Hills Drive Aug. 21 around 1:15 a.m. and found the teen, with a gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to Tennova hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined Thomas was moving a firearm from one location to another when he inadvertently discharged the gun and the bullet struck Sandoval. Sandoval was pronounced dead at Tennova Healthcare.

He was a graduate of Rossview High school and was on the wrestling team.

Thomas was arrested on June 5, 2020, after being served a sealed new indictment. He is scheduled to go to court for arraignment on July 13.
