CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police responded to a shots fired call Monday on Lennox Dr. after a caller heard gunshots coming from a residence.

When officers arrived, they found the front door partially open, windows busted, and a man inside yelling, according to a police report.

The man slammed the door and was then ordered to exit when other officers arrived on the scene. He left the home with his hands raised and was detained.

He told police someone attempted to break into his home, but officers did not find any signs of intruders. Witnesses said they did not see any signs of other people in the area at the time of the incident.

Police said the man was sweating profusely, could not sit still, had slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol. He admitted to drinking 1.5 beers and said he had fired his rifle out the doors and windows in an attempt to shoot the people breaking into his home.

The homeowner gave an officer his wife’s phone number, who told police her husband had a problem with synthetic marijuana and “had seen ghosts before and through they were trying to attack him.”

The man was transported to a nearby hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Police found a Bushmaster XM15 Rifle with four rounds, 19 spent shell casings, an S&W M&P handgun with 18 rounds, and bullet holes throughout the house.

A warrant was secured for the man’s arrest.
