CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville man has been arrested on charges that he caused a head-on collision earlier this year that involved five vehicles, killing one woman.

On June 7, at about 7:25 a.m., Samuel Thornton, 22, was travelling westbound on the 41A Bypass when he crossed over into the eastbound lane. According to documents obtained by Clarksville Now, Thornton was going 70 mph in a 50 mph speed limit zone when he hit two other SUVs, a pickup truck, and a semi-truck.

As a result, one of the drivers, Angela Hoilett, 48, was killed, and another driver was critically injured.

Thornton was booked into Montgomery County Jail on Nov. 22 on the following charges:

  1. Vehicular Homicide
  2. Aggravated Assault – Reckless
  3. Reckless Endangerment – Vehicle/Felony
  4. Reckless Endangerment – Vehicle/Felony
  5. Driving While License Canceled
  6. Improper Lane Change
  7. Drivers to Exercise Due Care
  8. Speeding

Thornton is set to appear in court before Judge Robert Bateman on Feb. 8, 2024.
