CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A man who police say provided drugs that caused a woman to die from an overdose has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder.

John Normand Vandal was arrested Wednesday on the charge. He was released the same day on bond.

In December 2019, Clarksville Police responded to an overdose death of a 28-year-old woman, according to police Sgt. Nicholas Newman.

The medical examiner determined the woman died from a fentanyl overdose.

After a lengthy investigation, detectives determined that Vandal provided drugs to the woman hours before she was found dead, Newman said.

Vandal was indicted during the June session of the Montgomery County Grand Jury on a count of second-degree murder, “killing of another that results from the unlawful distribution of any Schedule I or Schedule II drug, when the drug is the proximate cause of death of the user,” per Tennessee law.

The lead detective is Nathan Lee.
