CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)- A Clarksville man was arrested after wrecking his vehicle on Peachers Mill while allegedly under the influence of prescription medication.
On Monday, March 23, around 12:25 p.m.,, Clifton D. Cunningham, 41,was driving a black SUV when he lost consciousness, veered off the road and wrecked his car in a ditch in the 700 block of Peachers Mill Road.
EMS and Clarksville Fire Rescue were first to respond to the wreck and found Cunningham unconscious in the drivers seat. The first responsders administered Narcan and Cunningham regained consciousness and normal breathing, which according to his warrant indicated he was under the influence of an unknown opioid while driving.
Cunningham was taken to Tennova Healthcare for treatment and evaluation.
There was no damage to the SUV and Cunningham had no visible injuries. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
When police did a plain view search and inventory of the car for towing, a half bottle of Alprazolam prescribed to Cunningham on March 20, 2020 was found in the center cupholder.
The bottle was prescribed to have 90 pills in it and had 53 pills in it, the warrant said.
Cunningham has been charged with DUI three times, and has one conviction from March 2015.
He is charged with DUI 4th. His bond was set at $100,000.
