CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after allegedly slamming a dog twice into a wooden deck.
According to an arrest warrant, a neighbor was on her porch when she witnessed 27-year-old Dennis Roger Warnke, Jr. pick up a dog by the nape of its neck and slam it into a wooden deck.
The dog then went into the house and Warnke allegedly brought it outside again by the nape of its neck, lifted it above his head, and slammed it into the deck again.
When a second officer arrived, the dog was still lying in the same spot after being slammed. The officer said the dog was shaking uncontrollably and winced at the officer’s outstretched hand. The dog stood up but was reluctant to walk.
Animal Control took the dog into custody for evaluation.
“There is no legitimate reason to slam a dog onto a wooden porch twice, unless the intent for the action is to injure or kill the animal,” the officer wrote in the arrest warrant.
Warnke was charged with aggravated crulety to animals. His bond was set at $5,000.
