Update: 11:52 a.m.: Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies have taken the man who had locked himself inside the pantry at LifePoint Church into custody.
The man, Jose Salvador Martinez, 35, would not communicate with negotiators, according to Lt. Delaney. Deputies pushed the pantry door open to attempt further contact. Martinez became physically resistant and combative, but deputies were able to take him into custody shortly after, with assistance from the Clarksville Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Martinez has since been transported to a local hospital for treatment. Delaney said Martinez entered the church after crashing his vehicle nearby. Charges are pending further investigation. CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A man has barricaded himself at LifePoint Church on Rossview Road, and Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies have a large response in the area.
At about 9 a.m., deputies and other law enforcement responded to LifePoint on a report of an unknown man entering the building, according to a news release from Lt. Bishop Delaney. Law enforcement cleared the building and located the man, who has locked himself in the pantry.
The scene is secure, and law enforcement is contacting the man. This is an ongoing, but isolated incident, and residents are asked to stay away from the church until it’s resolved.
