CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Two people said they were randomly attacked at a gas station this week, and Clarksville Police have arrested a suspect.
On Sept. 14, at approximately 10:50 a.m., CPD officers were notified of an assault at the Shell Sudden Service at 1550 Hankook Road, according to police spokesman Scott Beaubien.
The two victims were sitting in their truck in the parking lot when a man pulled into the parking lot in a red Chevrolet Camaro. He approached the driver’s side of the truck and hit the driver in the head multiple times. When the passenger tried to intervene, the man also assaulted him. The man then drove away from the scene.
Officers in the area tried to stop the Camaro as it entered Interstate 24 eastbound, but the driver refused to stop. Tennessee Highway Patrol later found the Camaro abandoned near Exit 19.
While District 3 Criminal Investigation detectives were processing the vehicle, a man matching the description of the suspect emerged from the nearby wood line and was immediately detained. He was identified as the suspect, and he was the registered owner of the Camaro.
Both victims told officers they didn’t know the man, and they had been sitting in the parking lot for approximately five minutes before the attack.
Based on the investigation, detectives believe the assault was a random act of violence. Both victims sustained minor injuries. The man was charged with burglary, simple assault, and evading arrest.
