CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A paramedic formerly with the Nashville Fire Department accused of killing his wife and father-in-law in 2021 has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder.

Matthew David Konen, 35, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Thursday morning, following his arrest in Sumner County. Konen was indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury during its May session.

On the evening of Jan. 20, 2021, the shooting was reported Westwood Drive in Sango, according to previous reports. Konen’s father-in-law, 62-year-old David Rodgers, was beaten to death, and Konen’s wife, 30-year-old Rachel Konen, was shot.

In 911 call audio obtained by Clarksville Now, Konen could be heard telling dispatchers that Rodgers was the one who shot Rachel, and that Konen had “pistol-whipped” Rodgers because he thought Rodgers was going to shoot him too.

After the shooting, the Nashville Fire Department reassigned Konen, and he later resigned.

In June 2021, Konen pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. The grand jury indictment means that a trial will be scheduled.
