CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man with an extensive criminal history that includes several arrests for panhandling was arrested again this week for allegedly beating a woman at a motel.
Clarksville Police Department spokesman Jim Knoll said officers were called to the Winner Circle Motel on Fort Campbell Blvd. on the morning of Aug. 16 to investigate an assault. The female victim in her 50s told police she was in a motel room with the suspect, 34-year-old William Lyle II, an ex-boyfriend, and another man.
Lyle believed the woman had stolen money from him and began beating her, according to Knoll. She tried to flee but he reportedly dragged her back into the room and strangled her with a phone cord. Before leaving the scene, police said Lyle stole the woman’s 1998 Honda Accord, as well as her debit and credit cards.
When police arrived they noticed the victim had visible signs of physical injury but she refused to be taken to a hospital.
Clarksville police, assisted by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies, located and arrested Lyle Aug. 21. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, robbery, and theft of a motor vehicle. His bond was set at $200,000.
Knoll said Lyle has an extensive criminal history involving aggravated assault, domestic violence, violations of probation, and disorderly conduct. ClarksvilleNow records dating back to 2014 show that Lyle has also been arrested on charges related to panhandling multiple times.
