CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A man has been charged with false report after lying to police about a gunshot wound.

According to a news release from the Clarksville Police Department, Kevin Griffin, 29, was transported to Gateway Medical Center for a gunshot wound Aug. 23. He had been shot once in his left leg above the knee.

Griffin told police he had been shot at a local gas station and as he drove away, the suspect who allegedly shot him followed him in his vehicle. Police say Griffin’s story changed multiple times.

Griffin gave police consent to search his vehicle, where they found a 9mm shell casing in the front passenger seat. Police determined Griffin had reached for his weapon and accidentally shot himself in the knee.

He was charged with false report and booked into the Montgomery County Jail Monday.
