CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Are you looking for something different? Located at 2026-B Ft Campbell Blvd, just off the intersection of Ringgold Rd, is Rick’s Cards and Collectables.
On Friday nights, Rick’s hosts Friday Night Magic. It is a weekly standard tournament for players of ‘Magic: The Gathering’. There are usually 40 plus players in attendance. The tournament is open to all levels of players, ages 13 and up. Anyone can join in for a $5 entry fee. All players must be registered by 6:45 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. tournament start time. The event is orchestrated by David Hoernlen, a Level 1 Certified Judge.
“Magic for me is a lot of things. I love the constant learning aspect of the game. It helps keep the mind fresh because I constantly have to think about complex scenarios,” Hoernlen said. “While the game serves as educational material, it’s also a big source of social interaction. I’ve met some really cool people that have become very close to me throughout my years of playing.”
“The sense of community is very strong, and even when people move away because of the military, when you go to big tournaments out of state and see them there, it’s almost like visiting your relatives.”
Hoernlen wants more people to play so the store can start hosting larger events and draw even more people in. “As a player, I want more people playing the game I love because it brings in new competition, people with new and different ideas, and more friends to play with,” he said.
There are always friendly faces at Rick’s to show new players around. Rick’s is open 7 days a week. Stop by to find a new hobby, or to meet some new friends.
