CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW.COM) In a year of great debate over what is real and what is fake news, another totally bogus story is making the rounds on social media.
This one involves a shark spotted in Kentucky Lake. The story, published by react365.com has been shared at least 30,000 times since it was published even though the website admits the story is not to be taken seriously.
The non-story, under the headline Bull shark spotted in Kentucky Lake provides the following details about the alleged incident:
“Coast guard officials have determined that a 9 foot bull shark was identified in Kentucky Lake. A team of marine scientists are flying in from Florida to capture and study it.”
In very small print at the bottom, the website offers the following disclaimer: “This website is an entertainment website, news are created by users. These are humorous news, fantasy, fictional, that should not be seriously taken or as a source of information.”
Similar satire stories about a Forrest Gump sequel being filmed in Clarksville, and a close encounter with actor Bruce Willis at The Catfish House in Springfield were also unfounded.
