CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLEnow.com) Lowe’s stores in Clarksville along with Olympic Paints & Stains presented a number of weather-themed scenarios and also made a donation of stain to a local veteran at the Lowe’s at 1622 Madison Street.
Clarksville Veteran, John Vincent McCrum or J Vinny, as he likes to be called, received stain and deck cleaner from Olympic Paints & Stains as part of its Olympic Maximum Weather-Ready stain truck tour which is traveling to Lowe’s stores across the Midwest.
McCrum talked about the donation from Olympic and Lowe’s. “I think it’s a real nice gesture to do this. It’s a surprise. I never expected anything from anybody for my military service and never will. It’s nice they’re doing that for us,” said McCrum.
McCrum, who says he served aboard a submarine in the Vietnam era was contacted about being honored as a veteran. He added the stain and deck cleaner comes at a perfect time because he is starting a project and was actually getting ready to buy products to work on his deck.
Olympic Representative and Territory Manager for PPG, Ryan Upton, explained the event going on at Lowe’s for veterans. “He is getting ten gallons of stain of his choice and we also gave him five gallons of deck cleaner to make sure the deck is nice and clean prior to the stain going on,” said Upton.
The tour is part of an attempt to break the standing Guiness World Record for the “largest paintbrush mosaic”, while also offering interactive demonstrations of Olympic Maximum stain which provides a wider window of time to stain wood.
At each event, DIY-ers experience a demonstration showcasing the Olympic Maximum stain’s ability to stain while wood is wet, cold, warm or dry. After the demonstration, visitors contribute their paintbrush to the mosaic in an attempt to set a new record. When completed the mural will contain 32,000 paint brushes.
