CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The 31st Annual Love Lights a Tree ceremony for the American Cancer Society was held Sunday on the lawn of Tennova Health Care in Clarksville with Coy Baggett being named the 2020 Honorary Chairperson.
Baggett is a local businessman, active community leader, and member of Immaculate Conception Church. After the ceremony, Baggett said he felt humbled about being honored. “I have cancer and I’m taking chemo right now so anything I can do to promote a cure for cancer I’m willing to do for anybody,” Baggett said.
Each year nominations are accepted from the community for the honorary chairperson of the Love Lights a Tree campaign. A person who has had cancer or is currently being treated for cancer from Clarksville-Montgomery County is chosen from those nominations.
The identity of the person is kept secret until the tree lighting event. The introduction of the honorary chairperson was announced by Love Lights a Tree co-chairperson Lynne Griffey. The tree itself can be found on the front lawn of Tennova Healthcare.
Love Lights a Tree of Montgomery County is a fundraising effort to support the American Cancer Society and cancer research. Funds are raised by the purchase of lights by individuals in honor of, or in memory of, someone affected by cancer. Donations are $5 per light or $100 for a full strand of lights and are still being accepted.
