CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Five months ago, a Dachshund mix pup named Charlie disappeared from his family’s home in Clarksville. They searched high & low for him to no avail, and when it was time to PCS to their new duty station in Colorado they had no choice but to leave him behind.

Just over a week ago Charlie found himself at Montgomery County Animal Care and Control. Even though a family came to the shelter to reclaim him, shelter staff discovered that Charlie was microchipped to a different family who now lives in Colorado. The owners received the phone call and immediately posted a plea on a Facebook group called Lost and Found Pets of Clarksville Tennessee desperately seeking help to reunite Charlie with their family.

Within a matter of hours, the Humane Society of Clarksville – Montgomery County, pet owners, and other rescuers from Clarksville & beyond were rallying to help free Charlie from doggy jail, move him into a temporary foster home, donate towards his vetting & travel, and research the quickest, safest, most cost-effective transportation options that would reunite him with his family.

A volunteer pilot with Pilots N Paws, Jason W., arrived at Clarksville’s Outlaw Field to pick up Charlie and deliver him to Meadow Lake Airport in Colorado Springs and directly into the arms of his very thankful owner and her 4 year old son who never stopped asking about his dog.

The Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery Co. encourages every person who finds a dog or cat to make a diligent effort to locate the animal’s family starting with having the pet scanned for a microchip. Assuming ownership of a stray animal without first making a diligent effort to attempt to locate an owner isn’t right, legally or morally.

Pets can be scanned for microchips at Montgomery Co. Animal Control and any veterinary clinic at no charge. Contact the Humane Society or Animal Control for a complete list of actions that should be taken if you have lost or found a pet.

Tractor Supply Co. on Guthrie Hwy. is offering $18 microchips every Sunday until further notice (except Easter Sunday). For more info on low-cost microchipping, call TSC at 931-648-8895.
