CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control has received multiple pets that have been displaced since the Clarksville tornado on Saturday and they are looking for donations for animals and those affected.
“We started taking in displaced animals Saturday evening right after the storm,” said Animal Control director David Kaske. “We’ve taken in about 14 animals, primarily dogs, and we’ve already reunited some of those with their owners.”
The shelter is at full capacity due to the numbers coming in, and people are encouraged to check with Animal Control if they are missing a lost pet. They are also accepting donations from the community for wet and dry food, blankets, towels and washcloths, water bowls and cat litter.
The Nashville Humane Society is helping the shelter by donating items for animals and people of Montgomery County. They are also picking up pets to transfer to their space, in an effort to create space at MCACC. “The support we have received so far is awesome,” Kaske said. “We have had so many people reach out asking for what we need and what people in the community need.”
As of Monday, Animal Control officers have had difficulty getting in affected areas. “Traffic and congestion was so bad yesterday that two of our officers were stuck for over an hour and a half,” Kaske said Tuesday. “We are hoping today we can access some of those areas we didn’t get into yesterday.”
Free microchipping
MCACC will also be providing free microchipping to pets this week at the shelter and the affected areas of Montgomery County including Tiny Town, Tylertown, West Creek, Sandpiper, Britton Springs and Batts Lane. “Our adoption coordinator will be out with the vehicle today, scanning for microchips and handing out food for those that can’t make it to the shelter,” Kaske said.
If you found a lost pet, complete a Found Pet report on the MCACC website. You can also submit a Lost Pet report or stop by the shelter to check in person.
The shelter is at 616 North Spring St. They are accepting donations downtown and at their Fort Campbell location, 5290 Eighth St., Fort Campbell. For more information, call the shelter at 931-648-5750.
