CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Melissa Gordon’s family fell in love and adopted a puppy at Montgomery County Animal Care and Control on September 12, 2003. They named her Dixie.

Over the next 13 years, as do many of our furry friends, she became part of their family: A loyal companion and the welcome home greeter. She made you smile on a bad day, and was Melissa’s best friend.

Melissa decided to make Dixie’s last days her best, so she created a “bucket list” and over the last few months she marked items off that list, which included a picnic at Chick Fil A, a day at the Clarksville Fire Department and a visit back to their first house.

As Dixie was laid to rest on November 12, 2016 there was only one item left to complete: To make a donation in Dixie’s name to Animal Care and Control where she was rescued 13 years ago.

Melissa, who is a team leader at Chick Fil A on Wilma Rudolph Blvd, set up a donation box in which friends, family and costumers donated items in honor of her precious dog Dixie.

Melissa completed that last item on Dixie’s bucket list on November 21 when she met with Jeanette Farrell, Director at Montgomery County Animal Care and Control, and donated dog and cat food, toys, blankets and treats in honor of Dixie.
