CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) With Memorial Day coming up, Monday, May 29, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 396, will hold their annual Vietnam Veterans Candlelight Vigil, Sunday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, 350 Pageant Lane in Clarksville.

The vigil has been held each year since 1989 to help remember the now 28 POW’s/MIA’s from Tennessee. A roll call is carried out and a chair is placed in the hope that one day they will return.

Along with a candle being lit for each veteran as their name is called, a bell is tolled, and a veteran will say, “gone but not forgotten.” Across the U.S. there are approximately 1,300 veterans from the Vietnam War that are not accounted for.

Guest Speaker for the event is Matthew VanEpps, Assistant Commissioner for West Tennessee, Tennessee Department of Veterans Services. The JROTC from Montgomery Central High School will present the colors at the candlelight vigil.

The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization will also be hosting its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m., Monday, May 29 at the William O’ Beach Civic Hall at Veterans Plaza.
