CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – When Lamont Dozier left military service, he turned his hobby into a business and started Victorian Kennels and Aquatic Services.

Dozier served with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell starting in 1996, and he left the service in 1999 after being diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder.

Returning to Clarksville

He moved to North Carolina and went to college, getting a degree in sociology. He later returned to Clarksville and ended up making it his home here, together with his family, because he liked the area.

“I’ve always had pets, especially fish, and it’s always been a hobby of mine. Over the years having aquariums helped me with some of my PTSD symptoms like depression and anxiety. I just thought one day that I’m going to start my own business doing something that I really love and enjoy doing,” Dozier said.

Victorian Kennels and Aquatic Services is in its second year. Since their opening coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic it has been a little slow, but it’s starting to ramp up, as Dozier put it.

Aquarium setup, maintenance

He sets up aquariums for his customers, cleans them and handles monthly maintenance. He also breeds fish, and he can order rare fish for aquariums.

Dozier also works with ponds and was proud to say that pretty much anything aquatic, he can take care of it. He has been hired to set up everything from a 10-gallon tank to a 300-gallon aquarium. He recently began work on his largest project yet, a 6,000-gallon pond. Dozier also recently finished an aquarium project for the Montgomery County Veterans Service Office in Veterans Plaza.

The kennel business is something he plans to grow into over the next year or two. He’s in love with the French Bulldog breed, especially his dog Fendi.

He has a lot of help in the business from his wife, Courtney, and his son, D’avion, as well as his mother Victoria, whom the business is named after.
