CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Trendsetters Salon’s five stylists joined six members of Unruli Salons and two Echo Salons stylists to work with beauty schools in Nicaragua.

Beauty of Hope started with Uli Reyes three years ago when he went to visit Nicaragua. Reyes founded two beauty schools there and presented the first graduating class in 2015. These beauty schools hire local women to get them out of poverty and to keep them out of prostitution.

Another school will be opening soon.

Trendsetters Salon has previously embarked on mission trips abroad and was able to get in contact with Reyes about taking a trip to Nicaragua. The trip included a visit to three salons and two beauty schools. The stylists had 54 pounds of makeup that they used as they helped the beauty school students get ready for their graduation.

One salon that the group went to visit was in the mountains and had a ratio of 80 students to one teacher who would teach and cut hair seven days a week.

Annette Myers, owner of trendsetters Salon said that the teacher approached the group and mentioned that 40 percent of her students were going to quit but after hearing how long everyone has been working in this field they have hope.

The stylists on the trip also had the opportunity to work with Beauty for Ashes. This is a group that ministers to people who live in trash dumpsters by providing water and love.

Myers said, “Love is just the best gift you truly can give just to make people feel valued.”
