CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The March For Our Lives rally in Clarksville will take place at the McGregor Park Riverwalk Pavilion, 640 N Riverside Drive, on March 24 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The rally will feature student voices in song, spoken word, and speeches in remembrance of the lives lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14.
Young Clarksville students are joining with students from all over the country to call for change so that school shootings will stop.
Nahan Abubucker, a student leader from Middle College at APSU said, “I don’t want to wait until this happens in my state, in my district, at my school, for my country to realize this is an issue.”
The March For Our Lives is a national grassroots response to the school shootings. Across the nation, over 800 communities will host rallies on March 24.
“March For Our Lives is created by, inspired by, and led by students across the country who will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings. In the tragic wake of the seventeen lives brutally cut short in Florida, politicians are telling students that now is not the time to talk about guns. March For Our Lives believes the time is now,” the organization said in a press release.
Local organizers said they believe the following: “School safety is not a political issue. No special interest group, no political agenda is more critical than timely passage of legislation to effectively address the gun violence issues that are rampant in our country.”
