CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A new hashtag campaign on Twitter is giving Clarksville residents a way to spread good news on social media.
The addition of #clarksvilleproud to tweets shows what locals take pride in from troop returns at Fort Campbell, to teachers making a difference in local schools, or information about a charity doing something positive in the community.
Angel Yarbrough used the hashtag to tweet about her daughter’s decision to collect cans for a local homeless shelter instead of receiving gifts for her birthday, a tradition of giving she started last year.
Yarbrough said for her daughter Bayle’s ninth birthday, the girl decided to collect money for sick children instead of receiving presents.
Bayle was inspired by the story of a little girl named Terri who had been severely burned.
Initially the collection drive was not successful, so Bayle instead chose to donate her birthday gifts to Monroe Carroll, Jr. Children’s Hospital in Nashville. She researched what gifts were appropriate for the children and requested them from friends and family.
“We are extremely proud of her and her giving heart!” Yarbrough said.
Today, April 28, is Bayle’s tenth birthday and she has chosen to donate canned goods to a local homeless shelter.
