CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The American Red Cross of Tennessee River will host a community meeting on Monday July 27 from 10:00 a.m. to noon to discuss local plans for the Home Fire Campaign.

The Red Cross launched a nationwide campaign last year to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent over a five year period. As part of the campaign the Red Cross is joining fire departments and community groups nationwide to install smoke alarms in communities with high numbers of fires. The Red Cross also is asking every household in America to take the two simple steps that can save lives: checking their existing smoke alarms and practicing fire drills at home.

“Seven times a day someone in this country dies in a fire,” said Faye Anderson, American Red Cross of Tennessee River Executive Director. “This is a call to our community to help one another and come together to save lives.”

The planning meeting will include Red Cross staff and volunteers, as well as community partners and those interested in building teams to help install smoke alarms in high risk areas around Clarksville.

“We are encouraging anyone in our community who wants to make a difference to attend this meeting,” said Faye. “Representatives from churches, businesses or civic groups are encouraged to attend, as well as anyone who wants to join a team of volunteers to go out and help your neighbor.”

The July 27th meeting will be held at the American Red Cross of Tennessee River, 1760 Madison St., Clarksville, TN. For more information about the meeting, call 931-645-6401.
