CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Close to 30 people gathered Monday at the Montgomery County Courthouse in a show of support against the violence that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend. Members of the Clarksville Area Ministerial Association joined hands with those who were gathered and offered prayers for the victims and the people of Charlottesville as well as prayers for the protection of Clarksville-Montgomery County.
Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett talked about what the prayers meant to him. “There are a lot of things going on in the world today in other countries that are out of our control. When something happens like what happened in Charlottesville in our country, I thinks it’s time for people to rally around and pray for the victims,” Durrett said.
Durrett added that there should also be prayers for the people who caused the violence, pointing out one of the pastors prayed for forgiveness. He said he believes in forgiveness and believes in the power of prayer and said he hopes it will do a lot of good for our country.
