CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) #5582 proudly announces that The NAACP National Labor Committee, chaired by Mr. Richard Womack, has selected Pastor Jerry G. Jerkins, of Clarksville Tennessee, to receive the 2015 NAACP Benjamin L. Hooks “Keeper of the Flame” award.
This award is given annually to persons who have distinguished themselves by making significant contributions to racial equality and fairness in labor, enthusiastically support the civil rights movement, and display outstanding leadership qualities. We are proud to have the honor of being part of this historic attainment by Pastor Jerry G. Jerkins.
This award represents an earned tribute based on the combined efforts of his daughter Mrs. Jackie Jerkins Hampton, Pastor Dexter Mines and the forwarding of nomination from Elder Jimmie Garland, President of the Clarksville NAACP and Ms. Gloria Sweet-Love, President of the TN State Conference NAACP.
The awards luncheon will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the NAACP 106th Annual Convention in Philadelphia, PA.
