CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A local man was charged with False Report after allegedly claiming that he had been robbed on the morning of September 26.

According to Officer Natalie Hall, Detective Andy Hurst responded to the False Report at a bank on Fort Campbell Boulevard where Bernard Davis had an employee call 911 for him to report that a male driver sitting in a vehicle outside of the bank had robbed him at gunpoint and that here were also three female occupants in the vehicle.

Davis initially stated that while walking on New Providence Boulevard, he was approached by the driver, who asked if he had any money. Davis then told authorities that he told the driver he only had a debit card and the driver told him to get in the vehicle. Davis said he complied because the driver had a gun in his lap. The driver, Davis, and the three passengers then travelled to the bank where Davis had the employee call 911 for him.

Police found no evidence of a gun in the vehicle, and video footage revealed there was no way for those in the vehicle to discard the gun while Davis was in the bank. Davis stated that he did not see the driver or passengers get rid of the gun while he was with them.

The passengers all stated that Davis was picked up from Lincoln Homes because he asked for a ride to the bank, which contradicted his original story.

Davis then voluntarily came to the police station, where he stated that he was in Lincoln Homes and had been smoking crack all night when he ran out of money. He stated that he was given more drugs on credit and was threatened by a drug dealer to pay for them. He then said he asked for a ride to the bank to get away from the area and lied at first because he was embarrassed by the truth. The driver of the vehicle also voluntarily came to the police station, where he gave a similar story.

Davis was arrested and charged with False Report and transported to Montgomery County Jail.
