CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A newly-formed LGBTQ group is hoping to reach out to the community to support LGBTQ citizens and their family members.
PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is the United States’ largest organization for parents, families, friends, and allies united with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. The organization includes 400+ chapters that provide confidential peer support, education and advocacy in communities in nearly all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
Local organizer Tracy Jepson hopes to generate enough interest to form a chapter here in Clarksville.
“As we have endeavored to support and affirm our LGBTQ children, we have noticed the lack of supportive institutions in the community for families like our own and have decided to do what we can to make a difference for others,” Jepson said.
The initial board members include three parents of gay and transgender teenagers and young adults in Clarksville.
PFLAG will hold an interest meeting Monday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Wesley Foundation, 510 College Street.
