CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Dailene Sanford from Cumberland Furnace recently won the title of 2018 Tennessee Miss Amazing Teen Queen. The Miss Amazing pageant is a national program which offers opportunities for girls and women with disabilities to reach their full potential.
16-year-old Sanford has autism and participated in the state pageant in Franklin, Tennessee with an on-stage presentation, an interview and a talent competition where she sang the Carrie Underwood song, ‘Jesus Take The Wheel.’
She said the first thing she did after being announced as the winner was call out to her dad because she is a daddy’s girl. Sanford likes to watch TV, especially The Walking Dead and enjoys playing with her two dogs Molly and Marley and her cat T-Dog Enid.
Sanford said one of her dreams is to become an actor, which she plans on pursuing one day.
Sanford is also an athlete with the Buddy Ball Special Needs Athletic League and participated locally in the recent Buddy Ball ‘Once Upon a Time’ Pageant.
The National Miss Amazing is being held in Chicago, Illinois August 3-6. Miss Amazing Inc. is a nonprofit organization and this year 150 girls and women will unite in Chicago to show the world they are confident, able and of course amazing.
It takes around $2,500 to cover expenses for a Miss Amazing Queen and one guest to attend the national pageant. Sanford’s parents, Craig and Beverly, are planning local fundraising events to help pay those expenses.
There’s a bake sale at Hilltop Supermarket on Highway 149 on May 26 from 9-5, and two events at Chick-Fil-A on Madison Street. Spirit Night is June 5 from 5-8 p.m. and a car wash from 11-6 on June 9.
