CROFTON, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A local couple stationed at Fort Campbell recently celebrated their nuptials in a unique way: Their four fur children served as groomsmen and bridesmaids during the couple’s wedding ceremony on Saturday.

Jason Smitherman is an Apache pilot assigned to Bravo company, 1st battalion, 101st aviation regiment “Elvis Lives.” He and his new bride Katie met after Jason was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. three years ago.

Each had two dogs when they met, and Jason said it felt like they had formed their own Brady Bunch with animals.

The couple thought it was only natural for the dogs to be included in their special day.

“We’re just big dog lovers,” he said. “It was her (Katie’s) idea, but I was completely on board with it.”

Stretch, Sarge, Dixie, and Leia happily trotted down the aisle during the celebration May 28 at Burdoc Farms in Crofton, Ky. Each pup was decked out in a brand new collar and flowers.

The couple appreciated the positive reaction from the guests, who had no idea the dogs would be part of the ceremony.

The animal surprises didn’t end there, however. While the newly-weds were snapping professional photos, a group of riders had wandered into the area. Katie said she also owns a horse and the riders were more than happy to let the couple use their horses for the photography session.

Jason and Katie are now enjoying their honeymoon in Pigeon Forge. Congrats to the happy couple and their family of dogs!
