CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksvillenow.com The 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games are getting ready to open in the U.S. and one local competitor, Dr. Dave Hippensteel, is currently ranked 2nd in the world in the 60-64-year-old age division and is on track to possibly be the fittest 60-64-year-old in the world.

A local dentist, Dr. Hippensteel has a family cosmetic practice in Dickson, Tennessee and a pediatric practice right here in Clarksville. He said the CrossFit Games are a worldwide competition and it’s like the Olympics of CrossFit which are held every year.

Hippensteel said his daughter got him into CrossFit about 4 years ago, but before that he said he had always been into sports and fitness. His long resume of competition is made up of triathlons and decathlons along with motocross racing, snowboarding and surfing just to name a few.

“Getting into CrossFit was a real change for me. When I found CrossFit I found out that it was a whole other level of fitness that I hadn’t realized yet, even with all of the sports I’d done,” Hippensteel said. He first entered the Open competition in 2012 and then came back to win the Open competition in 2013.

The games are coming up July 19-24 in Carson, California. The CrossFit website says the field has been whittled down from hundreds of thousands of athletes to the world’s fittest 40 men, 40 women, 40 teams, 40 teenagers and 200 masters. The CrossFit Games ranks the worlds fittest and then determines the “Fittest on Earth”.

Hippensteel also had praise for his friend and supporter Dr. Scott Dunaway of ChiroStrength in Clarksville and said he’s been an asset to his training. “He knows the human body, he knows that when you have any kinks that you’ve got to get worked out in your muscles or joints, he knows how to work them out,” said Hippensteel.
