CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The United Methodist Churches of Mt. Zion, Antioch, Marion and Salem along with the Lone Oak and Memorial Baptist churches and the Christ Fellowship Methodist Church in Clarksville will host the fourth annual I Scream for FUEL, Ice Cream Freeze-Off Aug. 23.

The event will raise funds to support the FUEL program that provides non-perishable, easy to prepare food items for young children in the Montgomery County Schools. Many children rely on school breakfast and lunch for their primary meals each day and the food items supplied help supplement them over the weekend.

Salem United Methodist is looking for those creative cooks to submit their favorite ice cream concoctions to the contest.

Ice cream enthusiasts will face off Aug. 23 to determine who has created the best ice cream flavor. Celebrity judges will be on hand to sample the entries and determine the winners. Judges include: Richard Stevens, publisher of The Leaf Chronicle; Melinda Shepard, Executive Director of the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce; Roy Smith, owner of The Cumberland Grill; Brian Taylor, General Manager at CDE Lightband; and Mark Weakley, owner Queen City Restaurant equipment.

Snowbird from WSMV will also make a guest appearance. “Snowbird will be available for pictures and everyone can enjoy the music of The Back Lot Pickers while they sample the ice cream and help us raise funds for a great program,” said Carol Ussery, event committee chairperson.

Those interested in entering the contest can contact Salem United Methodist Church at 931-645-2544 or Carol Ussery at 931-647-6846. Deadline for entry is Wednesday, August 20.

The public can attend the event at Salem United Methodist Church from 4 – 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 23 for hot dogs, chips, a drink, and ice cream sampling. Donations will be accepted at the door.
