CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A group of local churches have joined together to help another church with their efforts to help the residents of Flint, Michigan with their current water crisis. The churches have been collecting bottles and jugs of water in Clarksville to be sent to the City of Flint.

Gail Smith, Business Administrator for Liberty Church in Clarksville said Pastor Terrence Chandler-Harrison made an appeal to the church that as believers the congregation was called to do something to help their fellow sisters and brothers in need.

From there, members of the church reached out to other churches, organizations and businesses for their support of the water drive, called the Flint Water initiative. The water will be delivered by a large U-Haul truck Friday, May 6 from Clarksville to Trinity Baptist Church in Flint where it will be distributed to families who need it.

Agero in Clarksville donated 50 cases of water for the effort. Amanda Cochrane, Temporary Operations Supervisor talked about their support. “Agero was approached by Liberty Church for a donation and we took an opportunity to help our community out and communities beyond, said Cochrane.

Along with liberty Church the other local churches involved included Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Greater Missionary Baptist Church, St. John Missionary Baptist Church, St. Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Christ the Healer Church, and City of David Church.

At last check by Clarksville Now, water was still being collected late Thursday afternoon and there was no final tally on how much water had been donated, but volunteers were hoping the truck would be filled.
