CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – This year, Discover Life Church, located on Memorial Drive, is participating in ‘Buy a Tree, Change a Life,’ a nationwide program supporting charities both at home and around the world.

Buy a Tree, Save a Life was founded in 2012. The group helps organizations set up Christmas Tree sales, with proceeds benefiting local and international charities. This year, Buy a Tree, Save a life has 44 sites in 17 states. This is the first year that the program has been in Clarksville.

All proceeds from tree sales go to charitable causes. The local portion of this year’s funds will be used by YAIPaks for their Box of Joy Program, which provides children going into foster care with basic necessities like clothes, food and toiletries.

The global portion of this year’s proceeds will go to support People for Care and Learning’s work in Cambodia. The organization provides a wide range of services, including food distribution, farming education, healthcare assistance, language learning and trade schools, as well as housing children in need through their two orphanages.

Isaac Lutz, country director for People for Care and Learning’s efforts in Cambodia, was in Clarksville on Wednesday to help with the sale.

“It’s huge. The majority of our funding comes from Buy a Tree Change a Life,” said Lutz. “It does most of our budget every year and helps the development work we do around the world.”

The trees being sold are frasier firs, cut in North Carolina and ranging in size to fit any household.

The Buy a Tree, Change a Life program is currently set to run through December 14, but may run longer if there are trees left. Trees range in price from depending on size, but many have contributed more in support of the fundraising cause. This includes Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, who purchased a tree from the sale.
