CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – For the past two months, The American Preparedness Council (APC) has asked for in-kind donations from local businesses in support of the Red Cross on Madison St.
The non-profit collected enough supplies to assemble 223 “Comfort Kits” aka: hygiene kits that will be distributed to people after a disaster. There were 26 people that volunteered to assemble kits on June 30 at the Red Cross chapter which included youth, adults and a number of off-duty soldiers from Ft. Campbell.
“I am so pleased with the response. We at the American Prep Council work to help people get prepared for whatever is to come,” Erin Jones, President/CEO of the local non-profit said.
The APC been in existence since 2011, teaching classes, providing information and assisting to sponsor the Clarksville Emergency Preparedness Fair every September. This year’s fair is September 17.
The organization is also in the process of creating 72-hour emergency kits to be distributed to people that work in disaster services/recovery and students working toward a degree in Emergency Management/Services.
Local Boy Scouts and additional soldiers at Ft. Campbell have offered to volunteer for the various projects that APC facilitates.
The following businesses contributed to the success of this project: Comfort Inn, Domino’s Pizza on Madison St., Target, Bill’s Wholesale, Back to Basics Dental, Warfield Dental Center, Sharon Farmer State Farm, Mid Tennessee Orthodontics, Andy’s Pharmacy, Harrah’s Hotel and Red Roof Inn.
