Where’s a place in Clarksville where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came?
That’d be The Star-Spangled Brewing Co., a local craft beer brewery that’s known for their specialized small-batch, high gravity-beers and homemade root beer.
In fact, Isaac Barrientos, a regular customer, said the root beer is quality and you can tell it’s “made with a purpose.”
He and his father, Che Barrientos, who loves the craft beer, first stepped into The Star Spangled Brewing Co. to enjoy hanging out during the business’ early days.
“We absolutely fell in love with it,” Che Barrientos said. “It’s not a bar vibe. It’s family-oriented, and that’s why I have absolutely no reservations with taking my family there.”
They soon brought Elizabeth Marie, Che’s daughter, to their regular spot after she moved from Florida. She and Isaac would listen to music and drink root beer while their dad enjoyed a pint.
She decided for her 21st birthday, she wanted to have her first beer at The Star Spangled Brewing Company.
“I didn’t have to convince her. It was a decision she made on her own,” Che said.
Owner Joshua Romaker marked the milestone of Elizabeth’s first beer on his calendar.
Owners set out for family-friendly vibe
Romaker and Allen Duvall, head brew master, sat with Z95.7 on-air talent Samantha Knight for their third installment of “I’d Tap That,” a radio series that explores the local craft beer scene.
They brought along several of their loyal customers, who enjoy the family-friendly establishment that welcomes newcomers, regulars and their families (dogs and children included).
Creating a fun-family vibe is something the owners pride themselves in.
“It’s great. I love to see families and kids, that means you are doing it right,” Romaker said.
Leslie and Wayne Wheeler, originally from Texas, stopped in Clarksville while at the CMA Fest years ago. They loved Star Spangled Brewery Company so much, Wayne traveled back at least three times a year, on beer runs to buy large quantities of beer and growlers as souvenirs for friends.
“We fell in love with it,” Leslie Wheeler said. “We can walk into a brewery and know instantly we like this place, we want to come back. … It became one of the anchors for the reasons we wanted to move here.”
In May 2020, they moved to Clarksville after their children moved away. They spend almost every weekend at The Star Spangled Brewing Co.
Chasing Virginia, Frobscottle, Just Wheat It, Crispy Attucks are just some of the beers they have been brewing this season and poured up for Samantha and her crew.
