Many events were canceled in 2020, but The Star Spangled Brewing Company is “lacking fear, but not the beer” as they host their third annual Oktoberfest.

The Star-Spangled Brewery, a veteran- and locally owned brewery, will host Oktoberfest on Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, at the brewery.

Head Brewer Joshua Romaker and Allen Duvall, the brew master, sat with Z95.7 on air talent Samantha Knight for “I’d Tap That,” a radio series that explores the local craft beer scene.

Romaker, a 23-year Army veteran, opened The Star-Spangled Brewery, which was then Tennessee’s smallest brewery, in October 2017. He was still an active duty Green Beret with Fort Campbell’s 5th Special Forces Group, and he took up making craft beer as a hobby that turned into his passion.

Duvall, also a veteran, began his brewing journey using a turkey-frying kit, which he used to brew beer on his off day.

The two operate The Star Spangled Brewery, along with their team of “beeristas,” and serve their beers on-tap from their family-friendly establishment, which features a tasting room, an outdoor space with picnic tables, yard games and, on the weekends, live music and a food truck.

Oktoberfest fun

Oktoberfest will feature authentic German food from Nashville’s Bavarian Bierhaus as well as The Star Spangled Brewery Company’s small-batch, high gravity-beers and homemade root beer.

The event will start at 3 p.m. and run until 11 p.m. each night. There will be live German/Polka music, drinking games and a beer stein holding contest.

Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Star-Spangled Brewery is at 1030 Progress Drive, Suite E, and open Wednesday, 3-9 p.m., Thursday, 3-8 p.m., and Friday 3-10 p.m.

They are open Saturday noon-10 p.m., and closed on Sundays for family.
