CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A swarm of wild honeybees was removed from the HomeTowne Suites motel Thursday afternoon by a team of local beekeepers.

bee-swarm-2Charles Cook, vice president of the Clarksville Montgomery County Beekeepers Association (CMCBA), said the motel supervisor visited the group’s website to locate someone who could solve the problem.

According to Cook, the beekeepers responded within 30 minutes and safely relocated the bees free of charge.

The incident occurred on an important day for beekeepers: the Clarksville City Council votes Thursday evening regarding potential new restrictions for beekeeping within city limits.

“If the City Council votes to remove beekeeping from the city limits, local beekeepers will no longer be available to provide services such as honeybee swarm removal,” Cook said.
