CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Four Clarksville-Montgomery County agencies have received grant money from the state to increase traffic safety efforts.
These grant projects focus on DUI enforcement and high visibility traffic enforcement. They were awarded to 376 agencies that successfully applied for funding based on a defined problem and statistical need.
Local grants include:
• Austin Peay State University Police Department: High Visibility Enforcement Police Traffic Services: $5,000
• Clarksville Police Department: Clarksville 2016 Alcohol Countermeasures Alcohol Enforcement: $75,000.75
• Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office: Selective Traffic Enforcement Police Traffic Services: $74,989.44
• Tennessee District Attorney General, 19th Judicial District: DUI Abatement/Prosecution Enhancement DUI Prosecution: $197,927.57
“These grants help fund a variety of enforcement, legal, and educational initiatives across the state,” Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer said. “All of these efforts, from DUI prosecution, to speed enforcement, to child passenger safety training, support the mission of saving lives and reducing injuries on our roads through partnership with numerous public and private organizations.”
Governor’s Highway Safety Office Director Kendell Poole said these efforts have contributed to the decline in traffic fatalities in Tennessee.
