CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Loaves and Fishes non-profit organization, which supports the food insecure in the community, has created a plan to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our area.
Dr. Rita Burnett, Director of Loaves and Fishes, said the organization has taken protocol to continue their operations.
“We cannot forget our primary mission which is to feed the hungry while protecting the health of our volunteers, staff and clients,” Burnett said. “The result was educating our neighbors about COVID-19 and health practices last week. Lunch services were adjusted to increase safety precautions for everyone in the food chain at Loaves and Fishes. On Sunday evening the plan was moved to the next level of safety precautions.”
At this time and until further notice the following steps have been enacted:
- All lunch programs will be distributed as a Grab-N-Go from a staged area outside.
- Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 10:30am to noon and on Sunday from 10:30am to 11:30am.
- All meals will be limited to one per person.
- Education during the lunch period and Q&A to reassure our neighbors on what the symptoms are and where to go for help.
- Partner Agency Distribution of canned goods will be moved to Friday only.
- No access to the building except for staff and scheduled volunteers until further notice.
- Continue deep cleaning of all areas in the kitchen, dining, offices and warehouse.
Our neighbors are counting on us for a meal, reassurance and information. Our goal is to continue to serve our community in this increased time of need, Burnett said.
