CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Loaves & Fishes in Clarksville is doing even more to help make sure their clients don’t go hungry. They have launched a new program, expanding into Sunday with their new “Blessing Bags”. Loaves & Fishes traditionally provides hot meals Monday through Saturday for those in need.
Diane Miner with Loaves & Fishes said the program started because there was not an organization in Clarksville feeding a regular meal to those in need on Sunday.
Loaves & Fishes is also looking for other civic groups and organizations to be a part of Blessing Bags.
The volunteer groups would serve by bringing prepared lunch-type bags to the Loaves & Fishes kitchen to be distributed Sunday mornings from 10:30-11:30. The Loaves & Fishes Kitchen is at 215 Foster St. inside the First Presbyterian Church Activities and Outreach Center.
The groups could sign up for one Sunday or multiple weekends. Civic groups, business groups, community organizations, or even groups of families could volunteer to help feed those who are hungry. Miner explained how the program works.
“You would come here about 9:45 or 10:00 in the morning. You would come with your 50 bags, which is what we are starting with, but the number may grow. You would come with your food and all we ask is that you meet and greet the people and you would be finished by 11:30 or 12:00,” said Miner.
Miner added that it is similar to packing a lunch for your family. Volunteers can include a sandwich, fruit, chips, cookie, etc. Miner said one thing she truly believes is that the group passing out the bags will be the ones who receive the biggest blessing.
