CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Friends of Loaves and Fishes held their annual Louisiana Saturday Nite October 11 at the First Presbyterian Church Activity Center. This is the eighth year for the event which is a fundraiser for Loaves and Fishes in Clarksville.

Loaves and Fishes Executive Director, Susan Chapman, talked about the event and Friends of Loaves and Fishes. “The last couple of years the support group Friends of Loaves and Fishes have been putting it together, and that’s a new group of younger people wanting to get involved,” said Chapman.

Chapman added that it has become a signature fundraising event for Loaves and Fishes and they usually serve about 500 people with half enjoying their meal at the church activity center with the rest using the take-out service.

The Louisiana Saturday Nite menu featured gumbo, red beans and rice, homemade pralines, a salad, bread and a drink along with music provided by a trio of local jazz musicians. The food was prepared and served by the organization’s volunteers.

Loaves and Fishes has been feeding hungry people in the community for 31 years and serves a mid-day meal six days a week which equals to about 50,000 meals a year. “Basically, anybody that needs a meal can come here and get some food,” Chapman said.

Money raised from Louisiana Saturday Nite and other activities will help provide food and help keep the doors open at Loaves and Fishes. The organization is always in need of food and financial donations as well as volunteers.

Loaves and Fishes is at the corner of Foster and 3rd Street in Clarksville. To make a donation or to learn more about Loaves and Fishes as well as Friends of Loaves and Fishes, visit www.loavesandfishestn.org or call 931-645-9020.
