CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – If you saw strange lights sparkling across the sky Saturday night, no it wasn’t an early visit from Santa Claus (or at least, we’re pretty sure it wasn’t).

And it wasn’t drones or a meteor shower. Experts say it was space junk: A failed Chinese satellite burning up on reentry through the atmosphere. Specifically, it was Superview-1 02, launched by China in December 2016, according to Aerospace.org, which keeps track of these things.

The lights were visible from both Clarksville and Oak Grove at about 10 p.m.

The timing of the reentry was predicted, but it wasn’t clear exactly where and how visible it would be. This one could be seen as far away as north Mississippi and Arkansas.
